Mission

Sour Dog Theatre is a group of young artists with a fresh perspective and an approach to theatre that bucks trends.

We make a point to create scripted work that is poignant and rooted in comedy. We know that if we can laugh together, we can also empathize together, cry together, and reflect together. Comedy is our favourite tool to get people thinking, talking, and taking action on social and global issues.

Our live improvised comedy is down to earth. We pride ourselves on telling good stories, not just an hour of cheap jokes. Our shows are always good for a laugh whether you're an improv junkie or want to break the ice on a first date. Did we mention our shows are PERFECT for first dates?

We are all about the community.

The Company

Ali Froggatt

Ali is the artistic director and founder of Sour Dog Theatre. She is extremely passionate about creating a company that can be used as a vehicle for herself and her comrades to explore their artistic voices, visions, and potentials. With a background in improvisation, training and performing with the Loose Moose Theatre company, Ali puts an emphasis on failing forward in the Sour Dogs' work. Take risks, have fun, break rules. Learn something new, wash, rinse, repeat.

Ali Froggatt has created or co-created several shows including Holiday Hangover, Unlucky In Love, Dog Sees God, Missed Connections, 7 Stories, Millenials and various corporate bookings.

Company Members

Andrea

Andrea

Andrea is a new member of Sour Dog Theatre. She is a musical theatre performer with a bachelor of fine arts in drama from the University of Calgary and is a graduate of the Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts in Toronto. Past theatre credits include Oklahoma!, Rent, Helga in Cabaret, Baker’s Wife in Into the Woods, Liz in Teenage Dream, and Piggy in Lord of the Flies. Aside from performing, Andrea's other love in life is eating sushi. She is very excited about being a part of an emerging company with so much potential. With the help of this amazingly talented team, she hopes to explore and expand the world of musical theatre in Calgary.

Melia Wylie

Melia Wylie

Melia happily works in promotion in all areas and endeavours of her life. She loves to create sparks in conversation, enlightening people about what is up and happening in the art scene of Calgary. When Melia is not working with us, she's excitedly slingin' pints at Bottlescrew Bill's Pub and dressin' up gals at Calgary's very own Blame Betty, the vintage and pin-up inspired boutique. This little lady claims that her deepest, most profound happiness delves from surrounding herself with fellow emerging artists and friends who are like-minded in the pursuit self-care, awareness, and most important to her: the performing arts.

Quinn Contini

Quinn Contini

Quinn is a man of many interests. At the moment he is an actor/improviser/carpenter who is working towards a business degree in entrepreneurship. As one of Sour Dog Theatre's life-long friends, he has committed his skills to help this company live on the edge of fear at the speed of fun.

Robyn Ord

Robyn Ord

Robyn is beyond stoked to be a part of Sour Dog Theatre. Robyn has been with Sour Dog from the inaugural production of Dog Sees God, and has been since then been a part of 7 Stories and Queenpins of Ponoka. Robyn attended Mount Royal University earning a diploma in theatre performance and is now finishing up her degree in musical theatre performance at Sheridan College. But most importantly, Robyn is a proud Sour Doggie that cannot wait to see where this budding company goes!

Sarah Ferguson

Sarah Ferguson

Sarah Ferguson is a queer theatre artist striving to create extraordinary and inclusive work. She has been a part of the Sour Dog family since their first production of Dog Sees God, and has had the pleasure of working alongside some of her best friends in more recent Sour Dog productions - 7 Stories and Queenpins of Ponoka. After graduating from Mount Royal University's theatre performance program, she moved to Vancouver and will be completing her BFA in theatre at Simon Fraser University this year. She cannot wait to be finished school, get out into the "real" world, and see where the future will take her and Sour Dog!

Simon Tottrup

Simon Tottrup

Simon Tottrup is a Calgary-based actor and playwright who has been seen in such Sour Dog classics as Dog Sees God and 7 Stories. He's very excited to be working with Sour Dog on the development of his original play: Queenpins of Ponoka.
